Since then, many groups started developing a set of extensions to IRC. This working group should develop standards-track IRC protocol extensions which are broadly useful. The working group will support and discuss interoperability of the necessary implementations to demonstrate the proposed protocols' utility. Extensions should be designed in such a way that existing clients supporting the IRC protocol will work with servers supporting IRCUP extensions. Extensions will include, but not be limited to: support of Unicode authorization and security mechanisms multi-layer security unified property mechanism IP multicast transport layer for a network of IRC clients and servers Linkage between IRC and applications based on other session-layer protocols Goals and Milestones: Internet-Drafts: No Current Internet-Drafts.
