Quality Document Transfer BOF (qualdocs) Tuesday, November 9 at 1300-1400 ================================ CHAIR: Richard Shockey DESCRIPTION: The transmission and reception of final form documents (i.e. presented in a format that describes their final rendering) is an essential global communications service. Several protocols and services have been developed over the years to facilitate document transmission, including the GSTN Fax service [ITU -T.30]. Within the IETF several protocols have been developed that facilitate document transmission, including RFC 2305 and RFC 2532 [Store and Forward Internet Fax] and the Internet Print Protocol [IPP]. AGENDA: 1. Review and update previous charter. http://www.pwg.org/hypermail/ifx/0181.html 2. We have a draft Goals Document that needs to be reviewed. A URL for this Internet-Draft is: http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-klyne-qualdoc-goals-01.txt We should make some decision whether this draft is suitable as a separate document or is more appropriate as an addendum to RFC 2542 the Goals and Requirements for Internet Fax document authored by Larry Masinter. 3. On that basis discuss possible directions the work could take. Both the IETF FAX group and the IPP group within the IETF are winding down operations. Its possible that both groups may re charter for new work. At the last BOF it was pretty clear that there were 2 basic avenues to take...either use IPP as the baseline protocol or some SMTP SESSION mode. 4. Since there is no current work contemplated on creating a SMTP SESSION protocol, it seems reasonable to conclude that IPP is the most likely immediate candidate to develop a QUALDOCS supported protocol. Is that the consensus? How should this work be undertaken? 5. Review other work in IETF that may impact QUALDOCS goals, such as IMPP work.
