TITLE: The Thief NAME: Jason Knight COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: jsgknight@yahoo.com WEBPAGE: http://www.renderosity.com/homepage.php?Who=jsgknight TOPIC: Absence COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: thethief.jpg ZIPFILE: thethief.zip RENDERER USED: Cinema 4D TOOLS USED: Cinema 4D, PhotoPaint for textures. RENDER TIME: 15 minutes HARDWARE USED: Anything and everything I could hook to my computer to make it run faster. IMAGE DESCRIPTION: This is a fancy art gallery with something noticeably absent right in the middle of the image. I have included a full sized, uncompressed version in the zip file. I have also posted a full sized version on my webpage at the link above. Unfortunately, jpg compression always kills the subtle details, so please take a look at the full image. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I am usually prone to long drawn out explanations about how I created every little detail, this time I think I will give you all a break. As opposed to boring the viewers, and judges, with endless babbling I will keep it short. The room curvature was not achieved by using camera optics or modeling. It was actually an old trick I learned back when I was still using Bryce. I added a flattened sphere just in front of the camera and applied a clear texture to it with a small amount of displacement. It basically creates a convex lens between the camera and my scene. I have used the same technique in several different software packages including Cinema 4D, Bryce, Lightwave, and 3D Studio Max. I know that there are other ways to bend a scene, but I find this to be the simplest. Since I am trying not to ramble, I will just say that I have included the complete scene in the zip file; it is in Cinema 4D R9 format. As always, thanks for looking and good luck to all the contestants.
