TITLE: The Tragedy of the Unique NAME: Jonathan Parke EMAIL: captain_parke@yahoo.com TOPIC: Out of Place COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. COUNTRY: USA RENDERER USED: Vray Free TOOLS USED: 3dsmax 6 RENDER TIME: Way too long! (almost two days) HARDWARE USED: Unknown, borrowed computer. IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Sadly it is always the unique ones who are the most out of place. While the identical hordes are happy and content in their similarity, the few who dare to be creative find only sadness. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Simple steps: 1) Create an excellent idea for a complex hardware-demanding scene. 2) Forget about the deadline until a few days until the end. 3) Scrap old scene ideas, refine a friend's random suggestion into final form. 4) Quickly box model some vaguely human-like bloby things, apply mesh smooth, apply red material. 5) Model a spiky vaguely human-like thing even more quickly, because you only have a few hours before you absolutely have to start the final render to finish in time. 6) Throw in some lights, guessing at what looks good because you don't have time for test renders. 7) Render final image and discover that your last second desperate plan just turned into some of your best art ever.
