TITLE: "9 Men Interrupted" NAME: Charles Fusner COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: cfusner@enter.net WEBPAGE: http://www.enter.net/~cfusner TOPIC: Toys & Games COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: 9meninte.jpg RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.5 TOOLS USED: Leveller, Poser, POV-Ray HARDWARE USED: Pentium 4 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A wistful reminder of summer which is just past here in the northern hemisphere. A beach house with its private beach. A board game, left half finished, is on the table, but afterall, on a bright sunny day with a stretch of beach awaiting, other diversions can be found that are more compelling. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Although the beach and figures were thrown together quickly in Leveller and Poser respectively, everything else in the scene was crafted by hand for a change. (For a change meaning that in the past I've used Moray for anything more than a couple dozen primitives in one place :) ) The figures and beach I'd actually considered making a photo background originally (since they are not really the focus of the scene), but in the end, I figured I'd just go with some real 3D. The finished result was not as complete or as photorealistic as I'd hoped, but I get so little time for raytracing anymore, and ran this so close to the wire that I figured it would be a waste not to submit anyway. The board game is a modern slant on 9 Men's Morrice (hence the title). In the era when this game was commonplace, it was typically played with lines scratched in the dirt, and stones, or buttons, or whatever a simple family could afford to make playing pieces out of, but here we have a formal board and pawn-like playing pieces, though the principal is the same. Why this game in particular? (Shrug) No reason. I found it in a search on the word "games", and chose it because it was something different from chess, checkers, or any of the other of dozens of board games that will no doubt be used elsewhere in the contest.
