JPGFILE: apple.jpg RENDERER USED: 3DStudio MAX 3.0 TOOLS USED: Photoshop RENDER TIME: 45 seconds HARDWARE USED: AMD 1.2 GHz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Pretty mutch a basic bullet trough a standard golden delicous apple DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I had a couple of ideas, and did try working out the others as well in 3d, but this one worked best. The apple was created using the basic techniques of 3dstudio, for the surface i used a veriaty of maps on it's surface. It uses a gradient map for diffuse color, with speckle submaps. And i used a speckle map for the bump. There is no bitmap used. i have substracted the hole for the bullet and the part that's blown out. pulling and pushing arround with the mesh until i got a nice exit wound in the apple. For the particles i used 2 particle super sprays with different textures, and 2 meshbombs that blowup a sphere and geosphere with different textures as well. This creates a nice mess. I used a littlebit of filmgrain and slight blur to get te "action" feeling of the shot. To complete it i modified the brightness and contrast of the output picture. Everything is done with 3dstudio, the background was rendered in 3dstudio and slightly modified in photoshop (contrast, color balance and adding the flare) before using it as enviroment background. the nice thing about this scene is that you can also get an avi videoclip of the bullet passing through the apple since all of the particles are animated as well as the bullet.
