TITLE: Lunascape NAME: John Campbell COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: jcampbel@lynn.ci-n.com WEBPAGE: http://www.ci-n.com/~jcampbel/ TOPIC: Spectacular Landscapes COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: lunas.jpg RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.5 (Linux/x86) TOOLS USED: joe text editor, home-rolled terrain generator, GIMP image editor RENDER TIME: 51 seconds HARDWARE USED: Dual-processor AMD Athlon XP 1900+ / 1024M IMAGE DESCRIPTION: All of Earth's spectacular landscapes in one go, as seen from our nearest neighbor. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: All modeling - not that there was much of it this time around - was done in my text editor. The imagemaps are actual satellite imagery that I got from various online sources. The terrain generator I wrote myself. (http://www.ci-n.com/software/terrain/) Terra is a sphere with two images mapped onto it, one for the underlying terrain, and a second layer, with alpha channel added, for the cloud cover. Luna is a heightfield generated by my terrain generator, not, unfortunately, accurate lunar terrain. The scene is lit by a point light source placed where Sol would be.
