IMAGE DESCRIPTION: My previous entry was appreciated by many people, but the biggest flaw it had was that it had very little to do with the current topic. This time, I've committed myself to create an image that is more in touch with the subject.
Unfortunately, due to limited hardware resources, I wasn't able to render a larger image.
DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: At first, I wanted to make a beautiful image of a snowflake as seen through a microscope. Since my previous entry was about glass, I liked the idea of creating something made from 'polished' ice. To create a snowflake, I wrote a recursive algorithm using simple white spheres. The first results reminded me of a bunch of snowmen sticked together. Somehow, this notion had a nice poetic touch so I decided to add a hat, a nose, a mouth and eyes. It took me another two days to get the mood and lighting right. The final touch was some focal blurring using a post-production filter from MegaPOV. It's a rather simple image, but I think it is a very nice and happy one. Like the old snowflake said: "There's a snowman in everyone of us".
