TITLE: sword NAME: Calvin Ashmore COUNTRY: US EMAIL: coa@andrew.cmu.edu WEBPAGE: http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/~coa/ TOPIC: Warfare COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: sword.jpg RENDERER USED: MegaPOV .7 TOOLS USED: Moray, Photoshop (file conversion) RENDER TIME: About 3 hours HARDWARE USED: PIII 850, 128RAM IMAGE DESCRIPTION: It's masters gone the blade is singed Waiting for battle, for blood it sings Storms beckon lightning cracks One can see the ghosts in glass Ribbons red, riding rivers Through your veins the blood shivers My concept is a war room temporarily empty. A precious mystical sword lies on a table waiting for battle. Though as the case tends to be, as magic is a fickle force, the sword has plans of its own. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I did all the modelling for this with Moray, because I'm a wuss. I used MegaPOV for the render because I wanted some blurred reflections and negative lights in various places. The strongest point of this I believe is the cloth and ribbons. I attempted to use as many symbols suggestive of fighting and bloodshed without actually rendering it outright. This turned out to be a very nice looking room in its entirety, and this image doesn't quite give the whole space justice, though it was necessary to get a reasonable ammount of detail. Incedentally, this does happen to be my first submission to the IRTC, though I've been a raytracer for a quite a time.
