EMAIL: ruy@hipernet.com.br NAME: Ruy Flavio de Olivera TOPIC: Warfare COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. TITLE: Modern Weapons COUNTRY: Brazil RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.5 b1-6 TOOLS USED: Corel Draw (ticket cover) and Adobe PhotoShop (WTC photo) RENDER TIME: 37h25m14s HARDWARE USED: PIII 1GHz 512MB RAM IMAGE DESCRIPTION: On September 11 war was declared on the USA. The weapons chosen were not based on gun powder, lead, explosives and the sort. They were, in fact, of a much simpler and more ordinary nature: boxcutters and plane tickets. I chose to depict these "weapons" (despite all the controversy I have seen on the irtc.general newsgroup) in order to show how things we usually take for granted may not turn out as we envisioned them, sometimes to our (great) loss. I have given a lot of thought to it before setting to design and render this scene. I chose to design this scene because even though it might be labeled as "tacky" (as it was implied in the group), I believe the message is important: in this case the devil was indeed in th details, and we will not profit anything by ignoring them. I would have depicted one of the Anthrax letters, but I didn't have the time. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I thought of this image on Sep/15, but didn't decide to design it until Sep/26. It took me one day to design the floor and three more to design the box cutter. Both are CSG. All the illumination is achieved by radiosity, and I had the darnest time getting rid of the artifacts.
