===== From jonathas@ifi.uio.no: Great image! I like the use of focal blur, and the positioning of the general and his assistents. Armour on the shoulders of the soldiers might have given the breastplate a less organic shape. ===== From higginsdj@bigpond.com: Not bad for a first attempt at the human form ===== From dickbill_2057@yahoo.com: In the 3D world, it is often said that the human face modelization is one of the most difficult task. Do not expect to achieve a reallistic look at the first trial. The problems are endless, ranging from the basic 3D shape to the skin texture and then the eyes, the hairs and then the animation... This is one of the most challenging issue of 3D. I see that you don't use the POSER objects, you dare to make your own bodies and heads, congratulation !. Continue to improve your skill. I want to make a general statement about the way I vote: I give a high mark for the artistic merit if the picture is pleasant to watch. No matter the interpretation, relevant or not and no matter the technical ability and complexity of the scene. The problem is that the artistic merit is not independant of the technical ability: a technical mistake creates an aesthetic insult which of course decreases the artistic merit mark. In such a case, the rule is to keep it simple. Richard ===== From james@imperiumglobal.com: This is an interesting composition, but I think it suffers from lack of detail and could use more historical accuracy. For example, the Romans didn't just mill around, they were very regimented, and no General would ever allow themselves to be seen to be lost. Your modelling is a good effort for your first time. Put more effort into your textures next time and I'm sure you'll be rewarded. ===== From philip.chan@home.com: Excellent job modelling the soilders. The terrain also looks very nice. ===== From lrwii@joplin.com: The bright sun doesn't add to the scene but takes away. I like everything on the other side of the sun spot. ===== From StephenF@whoever.com: The figures look good here. The scene seems a bit overbright to me, though. Obviously on-topic, but I think having two opposing forces coming together would have helped to support the battle aspect of the topic better. ===== From gmccarter@hotmail.com: A unique image, very interesting. ===== From tm-ray@consistent.org: The tree leaves look too big compared to the general, as if they're not scaled quite right. If you look at the trees behind the general and his advisors, the leaves are as big as the people's hands. The trees also seem to not get small enough in the distance. Good job modelling the people from scratch. It wasn't really clear from the image that they're supposed to be lost, however, or that the general is trying to find the puddle "pond" on his map, although the concept is cute. ===== From delfeld@mailcity.com: Good work with the human form, except they all look like they cannot close their eyes. The theme is a little incoherent here (not the topic, but your idea). I understand this is supposed to be representative, but what is it this is supposed to represent? Is that idea worth rendering (whatever it is)?
