Two different bacteria seemingly preparing for battle. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: This is my ninth entry. First, a few people wanted to change the subject for this round. I am for leaving it as is for a number of reasons. But they all boil down to trust. I trust that the fine people that enter this contest will enter apropiate pictures. The idea for this picture came about because when I first heard of the topic I wanted to something diffrent and abstract. Then the World Trade Center happen and I just wanted to do something on topic but not an abstract of man vrs man. While still numb I just played with POVray textures. When I happen to make one that look like a view from my microscope. SCENE : size: 600 * 600 contains 1798 frame level objects; 0 infinite. Smpls/Pxl: 5.09 Antialiasing..(Method 2, Threshold 0.400, Depth 2, Jitter 0.25) Objects: Lights: there is 4 one White in the middle of the microscope the others are scatter between the microscope and the slide. These are different colors. background (slide):two boxes intersected, with each box have a different texture mircoscope: a box intersected with an inversed cylinder brought up close to the camera Red and Blue Bacteria: These are made of 2 spheres and a cylinder merged with an high ior Inside of that I place a smaller cylinder with a red or blue and clear color_maps. To place and size them I made a Qbasic program that randomly select the size and a start location around a circle then move the bacteria and rotate it as it moves toward the center until it hits another bacteria. Then it would store all infromation in a file that POV can read. The program can be set to select a start point between any two angles. I played around with several different angles and sizes until I got the two that I wanted. I had to do a little resizing to the location to get things to turn out right. The files are part of the zip. star mold: After I put the bacteria down I went back and place the mold. Each mold is made up of a single cylinder with pigment scaled ,rotated using POV's 'rand'. To place them I picked a spot then let POV choose randomly how many cylinder to place. brown eggs: are sphere's texture the same. I place a few by hand(the Big ones) then let POV place 200 of veried sizes. Zip-File: main file - bacwar.pov ini file - bacwar.ini location file1 - bact4.fil location file2 - bact5.fil Epilogue: With every thing in place before Antialiasing the render time was around 2 hours. With Antialiasing the time went to 12 hours. This is the longest render I've ever done. It was worth it. Feel free to E-mail me with any comments and or suggests.
