TITLE: HoneyBee NAME: Rafi Ben-Aharon COUNTRY: Israel EMAIL: ranbena@bezeqint.net TOPIC: Insects and spiders COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: honeybee.jpg RENDERER USED: 3DSMAX r3 TOOLS USED: entirely created in 3DSMAX r3, textures created in Photoshop. MAKING TIME: about 6 nights. HARDWARE USED: Pentium 3 1000mhz. IMAGE DESCRIPTION: the image contains a close-up of a flying honeybee, as it is about to land on a flower, on a hot summer day. I had an image of this exact picture in my mind. I wanted to give it a photo-realistic look. So I had to explore the anatomy of a honey bee, by downloading a bunch of honey bee pictures and anatomy structure. Then I went to a friends house and picked up some flowers that looked like what I had in mind. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Modeling: I used basic spheres for the head and body, which then modified with FFD boxes. I built the tail using patches. For the fury effect I created a simple cone which I scatterred a lot around the body parts of the bee. I used the same technique for the flower, only not with a cone object. Focus effect: I used lens effects focus In the video post to make an effect of focusing on small objects. It's very important for a realistic look when close-uping on low scaled life. Motion blur: I used object motion blur on the wings in order to make the effect of the flight motion. Reflections: if you look closely you can see the reflection of the flower and the sky in the honey bee's eye. I realy like it - it enhaces the feel of the 3d environment. I think.
