TITLE: Charlette.jpg NAME: Wil Hale COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: gargayle@crosslink.net WEBPAGE: Sorry! had to take it down. will be up again soon. TOPIC: Spiders and Insects COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: charlett.jpg ZIPFILE: charlett.zip RENDERER USED: POVRAY 3.1g TOOLS USED: HammaPatch, Jasc PSP (for cr) RENDER TIME: 35 Mins HARDWARE USED: Pentium III 600, 256 MB RAM, IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Robo-Spider "Charlette" returns to the dome before the dust storm hits. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I havent competed in a while and when i saw the catagory it didn't scream at me " Go Draw a Spider!!!" but as i sat on my train ride to and from Washington DC. and contemplated ideas this got interesting. it actually started as a dagger in an evidence bin. Who Knew?!!!. Had a lot of fun doing it and it made the ride go faster. The spider was created in hamma patch. all of the areas are separate entities. i have included the hp file in the zip. Spent a lot of time positioning the legs to give a realistic pose and fit into the base height field i used for the ground. The terrain is a combination of two height fields and image maps. the main heightfield was textured and created in PSP. used a standard texture then used a mosaic to get the Basalt edges. colored it greyscale and viola. The ridge was pretty much the same but i used the topography feature in psp over some geometric shapes..then smoothed it a bit. the spires were donw with the paint tool to give the ridge some interest. There are two levels of ground fog. one at 0.2 and another at 15 high. the 0.2 worked really well as a sandy element between the cracks. The Altitude 15 one blends well with the skysphere to give the appearance of blowing sand. No media here. Enjoy. I'll appreaciate your comments. Happy tracing. the dome, tunnel, lab buildings and lighting are all CSG from POVRAY. did the AA setting at 0.
