DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: First and foremost was research. I went down to the local library and got out about 15 books on insects and spiders. I sat down and read. When i was finished going through all the books i sat down decided that i wanted to model a beetle. I played with a bunch of techniques and found that building the splines and surfacing them with patches was the best way for me to obtain the desired effect. (it also allows me to change the face value and make the little guy way fewer faces) once i was finished the model i didnt' know where to put him. One night in the middle of the night i glanced over at my bedside table and there was a sock sitting there. It looked like a huge bug. That's when i decided to put the beetle on my table. I grabbed my digital camera took a snap shop and then started modelling. The phone the clock are both fairly highly detailed objects while the lamp and table are both pretty basic. I played with the lighting a lot trying to create an even radiosity on the walls and making the light look like it's coming from the lamp. a few reflections and a image of a room projected onto the entire scene to give it a little more realism. The textures were all created from scratch, the phone maps were painted in photoshop and the clock and table maps were scanned/digitally photographed and then touched up in photoshop. the clock has an extra map (self illumination) for the digital display. The beetles maps were painted directly in photoshop.
