EMAIL: tom@tomandlu.co.uk NAME: Tom Melly TOPIC: Fortress COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. TITLE: Superman and the Fortress of Solitude COUNTRY: UK WEBPAGE: http://www.tomandlu.co.uk/ RENDERER USED: MEGAPOV 3.1g.wmp.0.6a (Win95) TOOLS USED: None RENDER TIME: about 12 hours HARDWARE USED: Various (P1 90 - P3 733, P3 for final render) IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Superman approaches his Fortress of Solitude. The fortress is based on the Dave Gibbons version as used in the Alan Moore tale, "For the Man Who Has Everything". DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The landscape is just one big multifractal isosurface with a slope pattern, the fortress is some fairly straightforward CSG, plus a differenced hf for the logo. The figure is exported from Poser3 via UVMapper and 3dWin. The cape is also an isosurface, plus the same logo as the fortress. The image as a whole uses one point light source, plus radiosity. Motion blur is applied to the figure. I haven't included the mesh for the figure as it's fairly large (3.8MB). If you want it, let me know and I'll post it on the web. The scene should render fine without (with one error message), as I've commented out the relevant lines. The render time given is for a larger version. This is a fairly rushed project, mainly done to make me eligable to vote (a family activity). For this I apologise.
