TITLE:Caracol (snail) NAME:Jaime Vives Piqueres COUNTRY:Valencia, Spain EMAIL:jaimevives@mixmail.com WEBPAGE:http://ciberia.ya.com/jaimevives TOPIC:FORTRESS COPYRIGHT:I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.1g for Linux and Linux MegaPOV 0.6a. TOOLS USED: - Red Hat Linux 6.2, kernel 2.4.2 - KDE 1.1.2 ((C) KDE Team), as window manager. - Kwrite ((C) Jochen Wilhelmy), to write POV scripts. - The Gimp ((C) S.Kimball and P.Mattis), to convert PNG output. RENDER TIME: lost info due to crashes, but about 2 hrs, in background. HARDWARE USED:AMD Athlon 1.2Ghz, 256MB RAM. IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Natural fortress. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Just when this round started, I was fired from my job at CTAV. Well, tecnically, it is a "contract extinction" due to "tecnical" resons, nothing "personal", you know... So, I was at home, with "theorically" nothing to do, but I was a bit upset by my future, and expent all the time planning it and the estrategy to sue CTAV. Fortunately, they acted correctly and payed all the severance. All the process took the entire round time, but having not entered for two rounds now, I decided to enter just five days ago. So, I started the scene saturday, and worked quickly (and dirty, sorry for the messy code) to have something ready before the deadline (just in the moment I'm writing, the image is rendering on background... and the dealine is really near, if not passed). Technically, nothing special this time, only something quick to enter and to recover my lost inspiration. Only notice that this is perhaps the first entry in the IRTC history done with two different programs. I used initially POV-Ray 3.1g, but the scene crashed and I had to continue it with megaPOV 0.6a. Fortunately, there is no visible difference betwen the two parts. Also note this is my first time casting a life form: please, be merciful... :) Bye! Jaime Vives Piqueres Valencia, 30 Apr. 2001. P.S.: Please, don't rely too much on the email and web location above, they are temporary. I'm in the process of seting up my own domain soon, if the ADSL line arrives some day...
