Then 4 days before the deadline I changed my mind! This abstract image was the first to come to mind, and it came together in an incredibly short space of time. It's meant to represent a holy man standing out from the darkness of the masses, illuminated by the light of god. BTW, for anyone who's wondering: I'm an agnostic ;) DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Objects: The people are simple CG, positioned in a grid using a while loop. The holy man is positioned independantly 'cause he has a few subtle differences. Materials: I came up with the material for the holy man in my first test render. It uses a shade of pink, with blue/green ambient light. The diffuse lighting is cranked up high so the colours peak out and you get the brilliant white where it catches the light. The other people all have a slightly modified version of this material, and I spent most of the time on this image tweaking the reflection and specular values on those guys. Lighting: This splits into two sections; -The masses are illuminated by a couple of dim lights, positioned to give nice higlights. They have media interaction turned off so they don't interfere with the holy light effect. The people have shadows turned off (apart from the holy man) as it confused the image. -The holy light consists of another 2 lights, one of which creates the rays, and the other one is a spotlight. The rays are created by shining a point light source through a stencil and into a cylinder filled with a media to simulate atmosphere. To prevent the two lights from interfering, the spotlight has media interaction turned off, and the other light is incredibly dim. The media's values are adjusted to make it respond to this dim light, but the light has almost no effect on the rest of the scene. The glow effect on the people next to the holy man is caused by the soft edges of the spotlight being wide enough to touch them, the image looked really disjointed without this.
