EMAIL: howelljf@optusnet.com.au NAME: Jillian Howell TOPIC: The Laboratory COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. TITLE: An Evil Experiment COUNTRY: Australia WEBPAGE: I don't have one, sorry ( not set-up anyway ) RENDERER USED: POV-ray for Windows v3.1 TOOLS USED: Moray for Windows v3.2 Microsoft Paint (Windows 98) Imaging for Windows RENDER TIME: 9 hrs 50 min 5 sec HARDWARE USED: Optima PC with a pentium III 450 MHz processor, 128 MB RAM & Trident Blade 3D PCI/AGP IMAGE DESCRIPTION: I have tried to be fairly realistic, but for the scientists out there who will notice, I know that no-one would set up a distillation quite like this, but a bunsen burner looks good hey? & who but lab staff would know what a heating mantle was? As to the potential explosive properties of pure fart & the wisdom of using a fume-hood...well I will just plead artistic licence. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THE IMAGE WAS CREATED: I used Moray to develop the concept & work out the dimensions of the more complex shapes, including the bicubic patch, but the final version is coded in POV-ray. My textures are developed mostly by starting with the most appropriate texture from the pov-ray include files & adjusting to fine-tune the result. The bottle label is hand-drawn & scanned for an authentic look. The can label is drawn using Paint & a portion of the beans bitmap. The beans bitmap is the product of an obliging friend, the scanner & a real can of baked beans! It was replicated & edited using Imaging & Paint. P.S. This is my first ever ray-traced image, I hope you like it.
