TITLE: Tidal Pool 2PM NAME: Sonny Lacey COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: sonny@coldwaterdesign.com WEBPAGE: www.coldwaterdesign.com TOPIC: the sea COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: tidepool.jpg RENDERER USED: Lightwave 5.0 TOOLS USED: Lightwave 5.0, Rhino, Illustrator 8.0, Photoshop 5.0 RENDER TIME: 30 minutes HARDWARE USED: PC Pentium II 266 mhz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: I grew up near the water and have always been fascinated by the great little world of tidal pools. I could spend a whole Saturday looking at them, going from one to another to find that perfect shell. The current IRTC topic of "the sea" made me think immediately of the tidal pools. I wanted to capture a bit of life and death, maybe a day or two old, at early afternoon and under a small bit of water. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The seashel curves were created in Illustrator, first, and then imported into Rhino where the meshes were made. The sea floor started as a flat plane and was subdivided 5 times. It was then pushed and pulled to create the hills and valleys. The whole lot was taken into Lightwave, where the majority of the time was spent adjusting the two lights that are used and the camera angle. Photoshop was used to create an image for the Nautilus shell material, which was applied in Lightwave. The sand is an image that was created in Photoshop and then altered by adding noise.
