I had the idea for this image when I searched for a nickname for a chat. The chat has an island as a metaphor so I found the name "Strandmaennchen" ("beachmanikin"?) suitable. And because everyone is encouraged to post a picture I started to design this image. So... Yes, the figure is maybe meant to be me! ;-) Yes, I am from Austria! No, I don't have voted for the party that is associated with the colour of my figure! The naming of the files, objects, textures and so on is very inconsistent... I started completely in german and switched to english somewhere inbetween... But never change a running source! ;-) I guess you know already... But sPatch by Mike Clifton is an ingenious tool! :-) Thanks to my friends Helga, Dina and Magic Al for their criticism and ideas. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I started with the beach, being a simple heightfield created and edited in Terrain Maker. Later I enlarged the image and converted it from 8-bit to 16-bit to smooth the bumps a little. I added a plane with bumps for the sea and a sphere for the sky. Next was the deck-chair. The chair was done as CSG and the cloth was done in sPatch. The figure itself and the sunglasses were also done in sPatch. The texture of the figure is a layered texture. Below the blue varnish you can see the pallid wood texture. The stone with my initials was then added as a kind of table for the Tequila Sunrise, which itself is CSG plus a straw done in sPatch. Then I wanted to add some starfish and some stones to liven up the environment. The stones are simple spheres. The starfish are created with sPatch. The Sunshade was completely designed in sPatch. For the shells I wrote an include-file (twirl.inc) I also included in the source. The sandcastle was also done with CSG, while the bucket and the shovel where done in sPatch. The flag was created using the flag.inc by Guy Rauscher. The sand texture was rather tricky because of the special surface structure of sand. I simulated the surface structure with deep bumps in the normal statement. The crab, the seagulls and the dolphins were also created in sPatch. All textures were created by hand and no image_map is used. I only included the .inc-files. If anyone is interested in the sPatch-Files of any of the objects just send a mail... :-)
