TITLE: Bye Bye Boats NAME: Leroy Whetstone COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: lrwii@janics.com TOPIC: Sea COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: lrsea.jpg RENDERER USED: Povray 3.1g Dos (ran under Win3.1) TOOLS USED: jpeg covertion & © : Lview by Leonardov Haddad Loureiro POV editor: (unname) by me prisms: Primpoly by me (I will put on them my web page if I ever work out all the bugs) RENDER TIME: 1 hour 50 min. 10 sec HARDWARE USED: Amd 5x86 133Mhz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A group of crabs wave good-bye to two boats of vacationers that didn't eat them. And birds looking for a free lunch follow the boats. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: PRELUDE: This is my first entry. I've been exploring POV and writing some support programs(using Qbasic). There's a lot there to explore. I first wrote a front end that let me view the scenes and code that came with POV. And as I got more into renering I modified it into a full POV editor(as yet unnamed). I use this to do all my work on this scene. I wrote other programs to make 'things' a little eazier. I created Primpoly to make polygons and prisms and to switch one to the other. It create the boats. SCENE: There are basicly 5 parts SKY,SEA,BOATS,CRABS,BIRDS Sky: uses a large sphere for background colors and a plane for clouds. Sea: contants 3 parts Sea,Beach, and transition. All uses a box with there own texture. Boats: one made with my Primpoly copied and colored with different textures. Crabs: are a union of cylinders and spheres copied & rotated . Birds: each one has 2 cones and placed by hand. I use antialise with a 640 by 200 pixel screen. Zip-File: The zip contains everything ya need to reproduce the scene.(hopfully) It should have 3 files. lrsea.pov, lrsea.ini, Sboat.prm PROLOG: The artist in me says this could be done better. The programer says remember the 'KISS' Keep It Simple Stupid. I've already seen a beach from the last contest that puts mine to shame. I do like the transition from the sea to the shore though. All the texture where done by hand. I guess I have another program to write. This scene turn out pretty well in TGA. But I'm not satisfied with the JPEG convertion. Maybe when I upgraded I'll find a better converter. That won't be for a while. Fell free to E-mail me with any comments and or suggests.
