EMAIL: ddombrow@vt.edu NAME: Daniel Dombrowsky TOPIC: Ruins COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. TITLE: Obsolescence COUNTRY: USA RENDERER USED: Bryce 3D RENDER TIME: 1hour 12minutes HARDWARE: Pentium II 400 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: This image is one of my first serious efforts with Bryce. While there are no buildings or obvius ruined structures in the image, the image focuses on the ruins left behind in the wake the progression of civilization. The large ship in the sky is a contrast of the ruins topic, and my intention was for it to bring out the ruined quality of the scenery. I hope I have captured these ideas in the image. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: This image is not in my opinion, a technically meritable work. I had no part in modelling either the ship, car, barrel, girder or tree. The ship and the car are freely distributed models from Renderosity.com and 3dcafe.com, respectively. The girder, barrel, and tree are Bryce preset objects. I created the terrain in the terrain editor, and a water plane was used for the river. As almost an afterthought I added the things in the far back left, which is a group of individually rotated cylinders and a rock shape. All the elements in the scene were rotated, scaled and positioned to fit the mood and the concept of the image. The fog is set at a smoggy brown color, and raised so it just lightly covered the water. All the sky settings were custom modified till I liked the cloudscape and the atmospheric elements I was getting. I then textured all the elements of the scene. All the textures are Bryce presets that have been modified and tweaked to my liking (suggestions on how to improve the car texture would be appreciated). In conclusion, I'd like to say a hearty thanks to the administrators of the irtc for providing this challenge. Also, this being my first irtc submission, I have to say that whether this image is judged to be an impressive interpretation of the ruins topic or merely ruinous in itself, I have thoroughly enjoyed the making of it, and hope to submit again next time.
