TITLE: End of the line NAME: Steve Welch COUNTRY: UK EMAIL: ydn26@dial.pipex.com WEBPAGE: http://ds.dial.pipex.com/town/plaza/ydn26/index.htm TOPIC: Ruins COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: ng_ruin.jpg ZIPFILE: ng_ruin.zip RENDERER USED: PovRay v3.1 TOOLS USED: Moray for Windows v3.2, Photoshop 4 for texture maps RENDER TIME: approx 1hr 30 mins HARDWARE USED: AMD K6-3 400Mhz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: The image depicts an old disused narrow gauge loco standing at its final resting place - still waiting to be scrapped. The railway company went bust and closed the line a while back. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The modelling for the image was done entirely using Moray for Windows v3.2. The actual loco I had done a few weeks before as an object in its own right, albeit a much 'cleaner' version. All the objects in the scene are pure CSG with the exception of the larger plants, window cracks and sign, which are bezier patches. The building walls are texture mapped with a grey scale version of the texture image used as a normal map. The stone arches and window surrounds are a procedural texture. The source file provided does not contain the texture maps and height fields as they are quite large (about 1Mb when zipped) - if anybody wants them drop me an email.
