TITLE: Three Pumpkins COUNTRY: United States of America WEBPAGE: www.bluelectrode.com (it's there but not up) RENDERER USED: POV-Ray v3.1 TOOLS USED: Moray v3.1, Photoshop v5.0.2 RENDER TIME: 1 minute 10 seconds HARDWARE USED: Pentium III, 128.0MB RAM IMAGE DESCRIPTION: So close to Halloween how could I resist? The scene consists of three carved pumpkins, one sitting atop the other, each with a devilish expression. Each pumpkin's face is back lite by an internal point light. The background consists of a brick wall and granite floor, although it's pretty hard to see because I left out all other light sources besides the one in the pumpkins. The darkness hides practically everything, good or bad;) DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: As an amateur modeler (this being my first rendering) I will be fairly forthcoming with my tricks and techniques, since most probably already know how easily I created this scene. First, I created and unioned eight spheres, positioned in a circular pattern, which I then gave a unique gradiated texture. I then copied everything I had made so far and scaled its new twin slightly smaller. I then differenced my two unions, creating the basic hollow pumpkin shape. Using a tapered sweep, implementing the Grass texture, I modeled a rudimentary stalk, which I positioned at the center top of the pumpkin. Then, using several translational sweeps, I unioned eyes, nose, and mouth and differenced this with the pumpkin shape to create the carved face. Back-lighting the face with an internal point light, the first (middle one) pumpkin was complete! Now, using the first completed pumpkin as a template I soon created two more ghoulish friends for my initial creation. Finally, I positioned one atop the other and, with a little imaginative angling to create composition, and my signature created in Photoshop the scene was complete!
