TITLE: Horror of a deadline NAME: Gail Shaw COUNTRY: South Africa EMAIL: gshaw@monotix.co.za WEBPAGE: http://www.rucus.ru.ac.za/~gail/ TOPIC: Horror COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: deadline.jpg ZIPFILE: deadline.zip RENDERER USED: Pov-ray 3.1 Superpatch TOOLS USED: Paint shop pro (creating imagemaps, heightfields and conversion to jpg) sPatch (Blade of the sword) Moray 3.1 (Pieces of paper) SplineEditor (Plate) RENDER TIME: 2 hrs 37 min HARDWARE USED: PIII 450Mhz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Anyone involved in computers for more than a few months knows the feeling. The project deadline is fixed (if you're lucky, otherwise it is moving forwards). For every bug fixed another two appear, and the client keeps phoning/emailing asking for new features and complaining that 'That's not what I asked for' Late nights at the comuter become necessary, then the norm. You get tired, irritated and develop a short temper. Usually this only occurs for a few weeks every month or so. But what happens when the deadlines keep coming, the work never eases and the problems never go away? DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The image is mostly CSG. The blade of the sword is made of bezier patches, modelled in sPatch, and the pieces of paper are also Bezier patches modelled in Moray. The Pizza box picture, calendar and screen are all imagemaps, as are the writing on the pieces of paper and the CD box inlays. All the cables are sphere sweeps. The guard of the sword is a height field. The keyboard was created by Robert Fremin and comes from a previous irtc image of his (Imaginary worlds iirc). The books come from an include file I found on the web a long time ago. The monitor and coffee cup I modelled for previous scenes last year, the rest was modelled as needed. I haven't included all the imagemaps due to the size of the zip file. If anyone wants the missing gif files please mail me and I'll send them as soon as possible.
