The waves are a height field generated in PoV with a simple plane with a marble pattern and ripple normal. This picture is also my first real try with layered textures: nearly everything on the boat has two or three layers (its "normal" texture, stains, an a wet texture). There is only one media in a cylinder in the scene. To allow the mast lamp to have a halo, I just put a perfectly transparent disc behind it (otherwise only one pixel here or there was visible). The rain was done using an idea from someone from the water round (or night, I don't remember exactly): it's just a transparent plane with a spotted texture properly scaled.
