TITLE: Babel No. 1 COUNTRY: USA WEBPAGE: http://subatomic-satan.net RENDERER USED: PiXELS:3D 3.0 TOOLS USED: RENDER TIME: HARDWARE USED: Macintosh G3: 300MHz, 128MB RAM IMAGE DESCRIPTION: This work in progress was an attempt to create an old, run-down environment (space station, city, etc.) where very different alien races could interact (meaning, where I could have fun creating bizarre creatures). I plan to expand this into a series of images and to further develop characters and architectural ideas. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: This was created using a wonderful program called PiXELS:3D. Since PiXELS is a NURBS-based modeler, it was relatively easy to mold the central alien's facial features. The alien's face is made up of a variety separate shapes which were then fused into a seamless whole using PiXELS' Fusion layer. This image has a mix of fully procedural textures (both aliens' skins, cloaks, etc.) and image map-based ones (most walls). The star map is an image of the positions of the stars at the moment of my birth (down to the minute). The blurriness of the background was achieved at render-time using PiXELS' depth of field (fStop = 5) and antialiasing set to 4. I hope you like it.
