Then, about 65 million years ago, they suddenly disappeard. Most scientists today believe, that a huge comet hit the earth, and the following "nuclear winter" killed all large animals. This was an important event in the history of earth. Without that, they would still exist, and no higher mammals like humans would have had no chanche to develope. The image shows a part of the comet entering earth's atmosphere. Two raptors are watching the scene during the last few seconds of their life. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Nothing very special about it. The Sun is a specular reflection on the inside of the "sky sphere", the hills and the background mountains are height-fields (created with terrain-maker), and the Raptors are made with poser. The comet is a blob with some interior/media for the light effects behind and in front of it. The plants in the front were made with rhino and imported as triangle-meshes. The comet punches a hole into the clouds. Therefore I used a black hole warp in the cloud texture. Once again, I ran out of time, so the source is undocumented and the include-files path points to my drive d: If you want to re-render the image, un-zip everything and set the include-filenames to match the directories on your machine...
