TITLE: Snake's Ambition COUNTRY: the Netherlands WEBPAGE: n/a RENDERER USED: Bryce 3D TOOLS USED: none RENDER TIME: approximately 1.01 hour HARDWARE USED: P2 233 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Using Bryce 3D I was very much tempted to send in a landscape not of this world. But that would be too easy. Instead I decided to come up with an imaginary world in which it is possible for a snake to dream about a career as a singer and banjoplayer. So in fact the image contains two imaginary worlds. The one I modeled and the second which the snake dreams up. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: First i created the landscape and the snake. The texture of the snake is a combination of a texture map and a bump map. The latter is a greyscaled picture of a real snakeskin. After that I modeled the 'stage' scene separately and raytraced it. The resulting image I applied as a texture on a square 2D object. Then I created a sphere that would fit inside the edges of the 2D object. Of these two I made a group. The 2D object designated as positive and the sphere as the intersecting part of the group. Thus i made certain that the 'stage' scene would fit seamlessly into a sphere. Then I duplicated the sphere. This duplicate I made neutral and gave it a smoky texture to give it some depth. Because post-production editing is forbidden and a high haze setting gives the image an overall pale look I encapsulated each pyramid in a slightly larger one with a smoky transparent texture to give them a distant, somewhat blurry, look. The banjo in the 'stage' scene I modeled after a picture I found on the Internet. The stage curtains I made of tori which were cut in half by means of a boolean operation. And then fitted together in a wave pattern. If you have further questions about the image, mail me. I haven't included the source files of this image because the zipfile was more than 6 Mb! (source file for the 'stage' scene included)
