JPGFILE: mount.jpg RENDERER USED: Stratavision 3d v.4 TOOLS USED: Extreme 3d, Photoshop 4, Epson GT-5000 scanner . RENDER TIME: 2 hour 3 minutes and 0 seconds . HARDWARE USED: Macintosh Performa 5200 . IMAGE DESCRIPTION: I started this image wanting to create something similar to the pseudo-landscapes (imaginary worlds) of the surrealist painter Max Ernst, this colided with the book "Dune" and evolved from there . DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The Mountains where made by cutting craters out of cones using a Boolean subtraction in Strata, my first real experiment with Boolean operations, it took six hours and I thought it my machine had crashed ;-) , I exported these as a DFX into Extreme 3d because I prefer its modeller and tweaked into there final shape . This is also where I created the castle on the centre Mountain out of simple cones and cylinders . The Ornithopters where created separately in Extreme 3d . The background image I painted then scanned into Photoshop for touching up and adding the clouds . The mountains where then exported back into Strata for texturing with maps I created in Photoshop . The background was set and this rendered in grey scale due to RAM constraints . The Ornithopters where then imported into Strata and textured . Because these are simpler models I was able to render in colour with the grey scale Mountains set as a background image .
