===== From bobfranke@halcyon.com: Myself and Pearl Harbor are stunned. There is a LOT to see in this image. Actually, knowing what you two are capable of, I will start of with three criticisms. I would like to see just a bit more detail in the large foreground ship and the ones in the far background are noticeably blocky. Also, the buildings in the right foreground need just a bit more detail or a different texture, I'm not sure what. Now for the accolades. Best ever I have seen... General attention to detail, including the research Smoke and fire Zero in flight Reproduction of a landscape with DEM data Use of the Internet as the founders envisioned Web site for an image (how about a 320x240 stereo pair) Great job guys, my highest tech score ever. ===== From newkirk@snip.net: Fabulous! Since I HAVE to pick a nit somewhere, it looks out-of-place that the machinery (especially the foreground fighter) are pristine... ;^) I think, given the detail of the image, far too much is lost to JPEG compression. I intend to download the ZIP and render at 1600x1200 with high AA.. (except when voting, 1600x1200x32 is my standard resolution) ===== From sammy@cube.net: One of those : Great fotography, Where's the entry picture. Also I'm not too sure wether it fits too well with the topic, It's definitely a very good picture! ===== From johnson@pharmacy.arizona.edu: WOW!!! What a staggering amount of work, even considering two of you were working on it! I'm in awe... ===== From Sean_Hamilton@amrcorp.com: Outstanding work, and wonderful smoke! The wake from the ship seems to be a little off on color and the scene seems to be static. Since we are apparantly in one of the zero's on a bombing run over the harbor, some focal blur would probably have added action to the scene. But of course, details would be lost. Still a great image and I commend all the hard work! ===== From manorton@tcnet.net: Most exelent. I love the smoke. you guys did a fantastick job. You might even want to conact the museum in Perl Harbor to see if they would like a print. I know I would. ===== From will@ism.com.br: i can't believe what i'm seein... congratulations ===== From caleb@chemeng.uct.ac.za: Awesome, my bet to win. The only thing i could think of is more dramatic lighting? ===== From MMandl@aol.com: This is a wow! ===== From djconnel@flash.net: Well, until now, I've never given out a 20 in a stills round.... so much for streaks. This is a technical masterwork. All aspects of the scene are of top quality. The tutorial cements the deal -- it is a true completed work. Even the camera position is novel and effective -- the tilt succeeds nicely in "creating tension". I suppose I can't be 100% ultra-positive -- while it is spectacular technically and excellent artistically, topicality-wise it's just "above average". But that's fine -- this is truly my clear choice for round-winner. I've never encountered such a clear #1 in stills before. ===== From east103@dialaccess.com: Good scene, great composition. I would have liked to have seen dirt, rust, and oil on the plane and ship textures. ===== From dnash@umich.edu: *Extremely* impressive (particularly the smoke and fire, but also the idea of getting the local topography right by using DEMs). ===== From ethelm@bigfoot.com: An amazing image from every aspect, composition, detail, accuracy and authenticity. Should be the winning entry! Must have been a staggering amount of work. The (secret) smoke is amazingly realistic. Well done to you both. ===== From 101741.541@compuserve.com: The reunion of two experts give expected results ! The smoke is especially impressive; media rules ! So much detail, so much action... ===== From blaineholmes@hotmail.com: Wonderful picture. Where do you get the time? Fabulous work, can't comment on everything cause it'd take more time than I have. ===== From wozzeck@club-internet.fr: Absolutely fantastic picture, which immediately enters the all-time top 10! Everything is here, especially the incredible motion brought by the camera angle. When two masters work together... Congratulation, folks! ===== From clem@dhol.com: Two masters combining. The result doesn't disappoint. I really like the smoke and fire. I am also impressed by the blurred propellors. The ship's wake is a very nice detail. The whole scene has a sort of olive drab overall tone. Was that intentional or did it just happen? One thing that bothers me a bit visually is that the transition between the high detail foreground and the relatively featureless hf background seems somewhat too abrupt. ===== From martial@biosys.net: Hi! I don't like the idea of the war! But nice works, It is a very big mastery povering and imaging, Great artist ! Very thanks for the source, we shall learn ! :-) ===== From jaime@ctav.es: No, no, no! This is not permissible! My good! N.B. and G.M. joining talents! No, I can't tolerate this, and, as punishment, I will rank you the higest! Hehehe... ...how do you think to share the poster prize? ;) ===== From r@pluto.icom-solutions.com: Notable for modelling, composition ===== From r@ppp-169-253.villette.club-internet.fr: Is first encounter always war for the author ? ===== From r@haka.saunalahti.fi: Absolutely marvellous, all that detail and everything! But still, there's something subtle in the surfaces that makes me think I'm seeing a photorealistic rendering of a highly accurate miniature model of Pearl Harbor. The smoke is great. Notable for modelling, composition ===== From r@ppp048.worldy.com: I looked at the smoke and couldn't get my eyes off the screen! Notable for lighting, modelling ===== From r@unreal.cop.fi: Unbeliveably detailed scene! The smoke looks perfect! Notable for modelling, composition
