EMAIL: emediez@emediez.com WEBPAGE: http://www.emediez.com TOPIC: First Encounters COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: mg_rose.jpg ZIPFILE: mg_rose.zip RENDERER USED: POVRay for Windows v. 3.1 TOOLS USED: POVRay 3.1, sPatch - to model objects in the scene, Paint Shop Pro 5.0 -to create .gif images, add signature-, Blob sculptor -to make two raindrops-, Corel PhotoPaint v 8.0 to convert to jpg format and embed the Digimarc number. Oooops! a texture found in Biowin used to colorize the mantis. RENDER TIME: 18h 54m 43s HARDWARE USED: Pentium 166 MHz, 48 RAM 4.0 GB IMAGE DESCRIPTION: First Encounter between the mantis and the insect., first encounter between the insect and the rose; first encounter between the insect and death -which will be for sure; first -serious- encounter between me and sPatch. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: ** The Rose- This was the first object modeled with sPatch, in last November. Beginning with one petal, repeating it and making sets of four around a little sphere; also, varying sizes, and twisting some of them. Two raindrops SHOULD appear., --unfortunately, I am rendering this image after coming from family vacations, to get the image on time -and the raindrops are not visible, argh!- Mantis and insect were also modeled with sPatch; then textures and image_maps were applied in POV. ** sPatch files are big, so they were transformed in include files to be used by the main pov file, this is, mg_rose.pov ** Objects are inside a sphere, a small one. The same gif image mapped in the sphere was posterized and used as a bump_map in the same texture statement. Gif images were created in Paint Shop Pro for this image. ** Lights were set to illuminate each object separately, with one at the top and area_lights added, to enhance the background. ** Colors named rj's or vd's are customized colors found in emecolor.inc, which is in my homepage also. However, the homepage file does not have the ";".
