That's where I grew up. Fire Island is not quite that rocky- in fact it's all sand and grass- no rocks. Some time in the future I will try to set up an exact scene with boardwalks and dunes, but I enjoyed making a rocky island and am especially happy with the ocean on the left side of the picture. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I created the lighthouse using the freeform extrusion tool on a round complex circle that narrowed at the middle just as the real lighthouse does. I used boolean subtractions to make the holes for the windows and frames. I used the extrusion tool on a 12 sided complex form to make the top and also extruded the decorations around the top. The railings are just primitive spheres and cylinders. The house was made from a box shape that was cut and added to with boolean operations. The sky is a gradient sphere. The clouds are actually just one fog primitive. The island is composed of serveral shapes that were formed in the 4elements terrain builder then sent to the mesh form modeller for adjustments. All island elements including the sandy beach and water have been deformed, some just twisted, the sand and water have radial waves. The boats were were made from extruded planks and ribs just like real boats. The sea gulls came out a little goofy, but my kids like them, they were made in the meshform modeller by pushing and pulling vertices. The sea gulls in the background are extruded from my own drawings.
