I learned a lot from this book, but somehow I could never quite grasp the technique of trick #10. I keep trying, but I just make a mess every time! DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: This scene is based upon a simple cartoon by B.Kliban, in "Advanced Cartooning and Other Drawings" (New York, 1993), p. 25. Modelling -- All objects and textures were created by me, specifically for this IRTC scene, except for the hands which are a slight improvement from my previous "BlobHand.inc" include file. All models were created directly in the POV-Ray text editor except for the book page shape, which was a bezier patch created in Moray. The water in all scenes is made from blobs. The table in the background has a complex 4-layer texture. The overlay objects (arrows and other symbols) are simple CSG and text objects. The remaining text on the page is made with image maps. Rendering -- The three main images were first rendered normally in POV-Ray. Each of the resulting images were then placed in a special POV-Ray scene with an orthographic camera and no lights, which allowed me to place the arrows and symbols over each image without worry about perspective effects and shadows. The scenes were then re-rendered with these overlay symbols. Finally, the three annotated images were placed onto the book page as image maps, and rendered as the final scene.
