TITLE:Storm Runner COUNTRY:Australia WEBPAGE:http://www.no13.net RENDERER USED:Povray for Windows. 3.01 Beta TOOLS USED: Paintshop Pro, Autocad, Rhino3d, Texturemagic, Link.inc RENDER TIME:13 hours HARDWARE USED:Pentium II with 128Mb ram, 1Gb swap space, Nt4 OS IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A classic "Battling the Elements" image of a ship running for a safe harbour, a storm only minutes behind. Lightening plays across the horizon and the sea grows dangerous. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I purchased a model kit of the Endevour Bark from the local hoby shop and then proceeded to measure it and draft the result in Autocad. I used Rhino to model the ships hull, sails and flags. The ropes and shrouds were created using a custom LSP routine from the Autocad drawing. The ocean is a tiled height field. The heigh field was created using POV. It is a granite texure with a poly_wave. It was then scaled and illuminated with a series of spotlights. All textures were created with the assistance of Texturemagic. The lightening is a self recursive macro. For an example of a self recursing macro see Pyramid.pov in the examples distributed with the POV 3.1 beta. The chain of the anchors is Chris Colefax's Link.inc . The sky is a combination of a fog and a series of media/inetriors (halos). Placed mainly behind the ship but with one centred on the ship. There were many, many test renders. As with all my entries full source code is included in the ZIP file.
