===== From roth@ens.ascom.ch: Wow! Looks like an awful lot of work. ===== From jknepley@nyx.net: The elements are individually nice, but duplicated so much as to be distracting. Your lighting provides a good feel of space. ===== From djconnel@flash.net: Nicely done! However, the topicality isn't of maximal level. As a benchmark, I wouldn't put this on the cover of an engineering textbook, although I would put it on a architecture one. There are engineering elements, but they aren't the focus of the work. Also, the originality isn't at the highest level.... cathedral shots are quite common. Nevertheless. it is a stunning image! ===== From castlewrks@aol.com: This image has an excellent application of textures on the various surfaces. From a visual perspective, the space looks constrained. The modelled structure is a huge space, it would be a better image with a human figure to show off the scale of the immensity of the modelled space. ===== From agage@mines.edu: The shadow in the bottom center seems to be out of place. ===== From ice@teanow4pm.demon.co.uk: This reminded me of a picture of the Pantheon in Rome I saw not too long ago. There is a central 'eye' or oculus in the dome of the Pantheon that wasn't visible in the picture, but you could see the shaft of light streaming in. It's a brilliant effect. ===== From sonya_roberts@geocities.com: I've heard the Hagia Sophia described as "the most beautiful old-world church", and I think your image shows at least a little of why it was described that way. Lovely detailing, nice texturing. My first thought was the image was a bit monochromatic, but then I realised a lot of that yellowy tone was representing gold leafing. Beautiful job. ===== From kaustin@tgn.net: Nicely done, with good overall balance. A few of the textures stand out as being too flat and the lights aren't right, plus a few technical drawbacks (missing structural features) but I venture that this is a very pleasing image. ===== From daves@wkpowerlink.com: Great image, incredible lighting and atmosphere, rather obvious theme ===== From chipr@niestu.com: Good use of atmosphere, excellent detail. Shadows a bit hard-edged. Scene, while gorgeous, seems rather sterile. Very good fit with the topic. ===== From bill@apocalypse.org: Another stunningly detailed and beautiful scene Nathan. ===== From gmccarter@hotmail.com: Splendid. Actually, awe inspiring! Although I think I would prefer to see an EXTERIOR view. Yes, the lamp shadows are pretty annoying. The text file gives a nice tie-in with the theme. What is the significance of "13"? ===== From arcana@sinbad.net: I really love this image. Quite well done. :{) As you'd mentioned, there are things that still need working on. The use of textures to shortcut some of the modelling was done quite well, but does show through in a few places. The atmosphere adds a nice touch with the sunlight coursing down through the windows, but also has a tendancy to blur details in the areas where the sunlight is not coursing down. The other detraction were the disks haning on the walls as your signature. The ones with the 13's on them. I recognize that sig from earlier contests. I would have preferred to have seen a small 13 somewhere nearly hidden. :{) ===== From bobfranke@halcyon.com: Very impressive. The light rays are very well done. You are right, it would have been better to turn off the shadows for the hanging lamps. I like the way you worked in the number thirteen. The big circular panels actually exist in the real church. BTW, what the heck is the significance of thirteen or Galaxy 13? ===== From wozzeck@club-internet.fr: Very impressive. Lightint could be slghtly improved, especially in the bottom part, but here is a logical follower for your "glass" entry. ===== From ethelm@bigfoot.com: This is a particularly nice image. As you have mentioned the shadows of the light fittings are the main distraction. The number of 13's are also are distraction. ===== From jaime@ctav.es: Great space and ambient! ===== From bsieker@techfak.uni-bielefeld.de: Quite nice, but I think the lighting is somewhat unnatural. ===== From 101741.541@compuserve.com: Great Raytracing Achievement ! ===== From c_et_d@club-internet.fr: Good modelling work. Peharps, adjust the lights and the shadows ( lamp = shadows on the floor ) and the sky is very grey. ===== From lpurple@netcom.com: Really beautiful image! Using the "13" logo to look like Arabic writing is clever. ===== From r@slip-32-100-72-29.ny.us.ibm.net>: Need more rays coming in from other windows. Notable for composition ===== From r@dial-up27.webbernet.net>: Beautiful image, very good detail. The lighting is dramatic and effective. I particularly like the lamp shadows and the detail below the dome. Quibble: The vast empty space may be accurate as well as dramatic, but the eye wants *something* there. The onetime home of the goddess/saint of Wisdom should feel more purposeful. ===== From r@bowerbird.cc.uq.edu.au>: Notable for lighting, composition, textures, modelling ===== From r@ts6-14.hfx.istar.ca: Amazing model, I love it. What do the 13's mean? Notable for lighting, composition, modelling ===== From r@sharry.demon.co.uk: Notable for lighting, composition, textures, modelling
