TITLE: "No TV for a Week!" or "Getting Grounded" NAME: Teddy Nishiyama COUNTRY: Japan EMAIL: tnishi@ari.ncl.omron.co.jp TOPIC: Childhood COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: badgrade.jpg RENDERER USED: Povray for Win 3.0 TOOLS USED: Moray, Povray, Paintshop pro RENDER TIME: 6h44m54s HARDWARE USED: P5 166MHz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A feeble attempt at convincing mom that you really WILL study by using these "learning" videos. (Yeah, right) Of course mom didn't believe you so your stuck with no television for a week. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Most of the objects such as the video tapes, tv, tv stand, were created and checked individually and then merged into the room that I created. The photo stand sitting on top of the tv set and the pen at the bottom are objects from my two previous entries. The room itself is a model of my own room at home. It's unfortunate that you can't see all the detail, but you can see the ceiling, the door and the closet as a reflection in the window. The table probably seems quite low to most of you, but in Japan, this is quite normal since on tatami mats, sitting on the floor is the norm and tables are about 40cm (about 15 inches) high. The scenery outside is a scanned in image mapped onto a (VERY) large wall FAAAAAAR away (so it doesn't get in the way of the light coming in through the window). The test is a screen image of a Word document and then I added in the wrong answers and red markings in Painshop then mapped on to a bezier patch. I especially experimented with area lights this time for the first time and used them for both the light coming through the window to give off an effect of a cloudy day, and I used it as the lighting for the room. I soon found out though that it REALLY takes a long time to render, especially with all the glass I use in the windows, so I had to use an "adaptive" level of 1 so the shadows didn't come out as smooth as I hoped.
