DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Paint Shop Pro was used to create the gifs used 
for the fabric textures, wallpaper, and the painting.  Everything else was purely Pov-Ray.  
One technique I find useful is to have one .pov file that exists only for creating new items
to go into the scene.  It's much faster to render one object to test it's appearance, than to 
render the entire scene.  When I am satisfied with the result, the code is then pasted into
the larger .pov file, and often into a separate .pov file to build a library of objects I can 
draw on for other renders.
