Godspeed to the Heavens, Sagan. Angus Bay Control, Out!" ---------------------- I was working on the shuttle craft for another image (Of a mars landing) just before the topic came about. I read the discription of the topic and thought astronomical event. Okay lets make the sun go nova. But I didn't want all of humanity to die so i decided to work harder on the shuttle craft and have it escaping. AT the same time i decided to name the shuttle after Carl Sagan, the person who got me in to physics in the first place (I grew up watching cosmos) So this is my memorial to him. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: First came the nova wave. I has woking around with halos and wasn't satisfied with a linear map. SO i grabbed the source and added the ability to use pigment_maps in addition to color_maps. The earth and the moon are both hi res image maps and lots of processing to turn the image maps into bump maps. Also I used the image map of the earth and created a 3 texture material map, ocean, land, and ice. with ice and land using the bump and image maps of earth with different finishes and the ocean just being a metalic bumpy bluish bozo texture. The husk of the sun was done with a standard colormap halo. The logo on the shuttle is a material/image map of a ratrace moon with the Initials in front of it. The outer part of the cockpit i used sPatch. (sPatch has made me break my rule on not using modelers but i'm just in love with it =} I'm using it to redo my dragon of my nov-dec 96 entry) the rest of the shuttle is just simple primatives. The exhaust flames are another pigment_map halo (If you look closely you'll see a graident pigment or 2 mapped withing the special density mapping) and it was rendered with 4x4 radiosity
