TITLE: Class COUNTRY: Finland RENDERER USED: Povray 3.0 TOOLS USED: Text editor only RENDER TIME: 6 hours 58 minutes HARDWARE USED: Alphastation 300 MHz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Just a boring class :) DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: My main purpose for this image was to test how povray's radiosity works. There's only 1 light source (the Sun) in the image, outside the room, so without radiosity everything into the shadows would be uniformly gray (no visible corners etc). Also the lamps in the ceiling would be completely invisible. The radiosity makes all details into the shadows visible. I know the radiosity engine of povray is kinda poor, but it worked better than I supposed. It makes the image more realistic. However, there are little errors in the shadows (like stains of dirt or something). I could use a better quality for the radiosity, but the calculation time would have been days or weeks :) I like it anyways. The light source is a 10*10 area light. It makes the image a LOT more realistic (with a point light the shadows are too sharp). There is one thing I realized while doing this image: Ambient lighting can make an object REALLY unrealistic. Let me explain. Look at the trees outside. The shadows are completely black. I was forced to turn off ambient light for these objects. This is because normal modifiers just don't work into the shadows (the trees use bumps and crand). The trees look just flat in the shadow part (while the illuminated side is very bumped and wrinkled). It looks AWFUL! With completely black shadows it looks quite acceptable. All is done by hand, with a simple text editor. I have used moray quite a lot, but I don't know... it's just a little too limited :) (of course I designed the furniture on paper first).
