JPGFILE: tkgalile.jpg ZIPFILE: tkgalile.zip RENDERER USED: PovRay 3.00e/3.01 TOOLS USED: Moray 2.5 for modeling Photoshop 3.0 to insert logo and e-mail address RENDER TIME: approx. 32 hours HARDWARE USED: Pentium 133 MHz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A rather interesting piece of glass is this thermometer built after an idea of Galileo Galilei. It consists of a tube of glass filled with a liquid. Within this liquid are some balloons made of glass, filled with a different liquid (of different color). Differences of the buoyancy at different temperatures makes the balloons rise or fall and so you can tell the temperature. So this is ideal for this topic (lots of glass, liquids, reflections, refractions etc. ). The thermometer is setup as if a photograph is being taken for some kind of product catalog. The camera position may seem a little bit unusual for a product catalog, but you get nice refractions this way ;) . DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The picture was modelled using Moray 2.5 and was rendered with Povray 3.0e or 3.01. Max_trace_level is not set very high (only to 20) because with higher values Povray crashes. The blue texture is just blue color with some wrinkles. Source: Everything including Moray model file is provided.
