EMAIL: jay@map.com NAME: Roland J. Roberts TOPIC: Glass COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. TITLE: A Quiet Evening COUNTRY: USA WEBPAGE: http://pages.map.com/~jay RENDERER USED: Povray 3.0 TOOLS USED: Moray 2.5a, Colorworks v1+ RENDER TIME: 52 hours 34 minutes 43.0 seconds HARDWARE USED: Pentium-100 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: I wanted to try out a number of Moray's features (I'd just upgraded to 2.5), and decided to try out the rotational sweeps, hence the bottle and goblets. The window and atmosphere were inspired by the POV3 for Windows documentation. The label on the bottle was produced using Colorworks for OS/2, the chair model (by Timothy D. Boudreau - http://pages.map.com/~tim), was added at his suggestion. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I designed most of the items separately (in Moray) to speed up test renders, and merged the results to achieve an almost finished .POV scene file. The halos for the candle flames were hand-edited in and tweaked to provide a nice flame-like appearance. A couple other things were adjusted (filter changed to transmit for the bottle's label...) to produce the final scene, which I rendered with radiosity. The three lightsources in the scene (5 including the emitting halo candle flames) are 2 point lights, each right above the candle flames, and an area spotlight pointing into the room from outside the window. The area light and atmosphere both contributed greatly to the render time. (The attached .zip file contains the final POV scene file and Moray-generated includes)
