MPGFILE: ttcubes.mpg RENDERER USED: povray 3.5 TOOLS USED: VirtualDub and TMPGEnc for editing and MPEG conversion CREATION TIME: about three hours of rendering+editing HARDWARE USED: Pentium4 1,41 GHz 192 MB of RAM ANIMATION DESCRIPTION: Two Rubik_s cubes compete in self-solution. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS ANIMATION WAS CREATED: This is my first animation, so I chose to keep it visually as simple as possible. When it comes to modeling or texture, there is nothing special. The turns are controlled by an array of 27 vectors, one for each small cube. The vector tells the amount of rotation round the axes. I also used a status array to keep track of which of the small cubes (numbered from 0 to 26) is in a given location after x turns. The splines of povray did not work as I expected, so I wrote my own. To save time I chose not solve the Rubik's cube from scratch but use instead an example presented by Lars Petrus on his webpage "Solving Rubik's cube for speed" at http://lar5.com/cube/ Everything was done with PPP (paper, pencil and povray).
