RENDERER USED: RayDream 3D (the stripped-down entry-level version of RayDream Studio) TOOLS USED: RayDream 3D for modeling / rendering, Adobe AfterEffects for editing CREATION TIME: Rendered in about 4 hours HARDWARE USED: Compaq Armada 1750 ANIMATION DESCRIPTION: A modern interpretation of the old belief that the motion of the universe could be explained as some enormous machine in the heavens. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS ANIMATION WAS CREATED: When I saw the theme "inner workings" my mind immediately sprung to this image -- the complicated inner workings of the machine that folks in the mid-second millennium believed accounted for the motions of the sun, moon, planets and stars in the sky. All of the elements in this were built in RayDream 3D's internal modelers. The wheels were embued with a rotation behavior. The post was locked to one of the wheels. The gizmo it attaches to and moves back and forth was, obviously enough, attached to the post. The spring thing was rotated in synch with the motion of the back-and-forth gizmo.... The three detail shots of the cogs in motion were rendered individually from the same animation file but with a different camera move. The three shots were then combined in Adobe AfterEffects, allowing for the dissolves between the shots. No other image manipulation was performed in AfterEffects, aside from adding the titles on front and back.... If anyone has questions about this animation, please feel free to e-mail me. - Chip
