TITLE: A Virtual Tour of RHIC COUNTRY: USA WEBPAGE: http://www.phenix.bnl.gov/WWW/software/central/display/luxanim.html RENDERER USED: Pov-Ray 3.1 TOOLS USED: Adobe PhotoDeluxe CREATION TIME: About 24 hours rendering time HARDWARE USED: 266 MHz Gateway Pentium II, 64 MB RAM VIEWING RECOMMENDATIONS: Sit back and enjoy. ANIMATION DESCRIPTION: This is the first half of a virtual tour of the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory, which is a new physics accelerator that will begin operation later in 1999. This traces the acceleration of a single gold ion from its origin in a set of tandem accelerators, to its point of collision within the collider. Also modeled are the 4 experiments that will be taking data at the collider later this year. The second half of the movie (not shown) zooms in on each of these experiments. The entire movie is about 1.5 minutes long and weighs in at 13 MB. You can see it by going to http://www.phenix.bnl.gov/WWW/software/central/display/rhictour.mpg DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS ANIMATION WAS CREATED: The entire animation was created using Pov-Ray 3.1 within its editor. The clock variable was used heavily here with the movie divided into sequences for a modular approach to its construction for easy modification. The title page was created by editing the Pov-Ray output file within Adobe PhotoDeluxe.
