TITLE: Nine-Nine-Go COUNTRY: Germany RENDERER USED: Cinema 4d 6 CE+ TOOLS USED: 50grEy for the lightdome RENDER TIME: 1 Hour, 10 Minutes HARDWARE USED: Intel Pentium 4 Mobile, 1,6 Ghz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: The Image shows a Go board, two bowls for the stones, with a play going on. Go is a game with a minimalistic set of rules. Nevertheless the game is complex concidering the amount of possible plays. To fit the theme further, i've chosen the even more minimalistic variant on a 9x9-Board (usually it is played on 19x19). I've chosen a situation from a game between two professional players, Cho Chikun and Yamada Kimio. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The picture was done completly within Cinema 4D, which I got over a year ago, as an inlay to a computer newspaper. I've never done much with it, up to now. I found the time to use it, saw the topic "minimalism" two weeks before the deadline and decided to give it a try. The stones, the bowls and the lids where done using the lathe tools. The stones are instances of a base stone. One of these is in the board, each of the bowls and each of the lids - so everything is still poseable. The stones in the bowls are placed by hand. I tried to avoid obvious clippings. The board is a simple box, the lines on the board are boxes as well, table the same. The Lights were complicated, and i run out of time before I could perfect them. I 've choosen an area light source for the main light part and the shadows, a direct light above and a lightdome without shadows for enviromental lighting. For the material of the board and the bowls, I used Cinema's included 3D wood shader, although I'm not really satisfied with it. It lacks the possibility to create a shiny surface. I looked for a better solution but ran out of time. So the creation of the picture is minimalistic as well - simple parts, simple textures. Still the picture pleases my eye. Hopefully it pleases your's too.
