EMAIL: C_woodma@skidmore.edu NAME: Constance Woodman TOPIC: Mythology Still COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. TITLE: Crystal Gryphon In My Mother's Mirrored Curio Box COUNTRY: United States RENDERER USED: POV-ray 3.5 TOOLS USED: Moray 3.5, Teddy by Takeo Igarashi, Crossroads converter to bring files from Teddy into Moray. RENDER TIME: 4hr. 57mn. HARDWARE USED: Pentium III. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Using Teddy I quickly created the various parts of the griffin. Teddy leaves facets on the figure, which I wanted instead of a smooth skin. There was no need to smooth the mesh. I used simple primitives for the rest, enclosing it in a glass textured sphere. The wooden pedestal is a cube on top of a cylinder. The pedestal is textured with a wood texture I modified from the Moray library. The crystal in the griffin is a different texture than the glass. I used a variation of Tim Cook's glass texture for the griffin, which made the figurine refract and sparkle. The lights are two point lights and an area light inside the mirrored cube. This piece is structurally rather simple, and the visual interest is in how the light reflects off surface. The finished raytrace was cropped and resized to fit submission guidelines, and then darkened minimally to gamma correct.
