HARDWARE USED: Pentium III @ 650Mhz, 128M RAM IMAGE DESCRIPTION: The derelict sailboat, the tattered remains of its rigging drifting in the winds of the building storm...The forces of nature being interrupted by a single, man-made object that has been abandoned long ago...An unnatural object in the midst of all that is natural. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: This image actually came as a surprise to me, it wasn't my intention at all to do an ocean scene. I had originally intended to do a forested landscape with something man-made, the same theme but I was having too much trouble getting the image how I wanted it. I gave up on it entirely, was working on something else when I made the sky. The sky is actually a series of carefully textured planes, 30 total that were generated in a script I wrote. The textures are using the 'wrinkle' pattern in povray; no image maps were used. Later, with 10 days left in the contest, I saw this really cool dusk desert photo with this stark sky and a detailed landscape foreground and started thinking. I didn't want to abandon my clouds, so I threw them in :). The boat was an afterthought and is a fairly simple model. The remains of the rigging were generated using another script I wrote for sweeping an object along a bezier path. I wanted a dark foreground with a contrasting sky, so all objects are textured fairly dark with low ambient values. I was afraid it would look too flat, so I added the ground fog.
