TITLE: jet COUNTRY: Germany WEBPAGE: http://psybert.uni-bielefeld.de/~bsieker/ RENDERER USED: Real3D V3.5 TOOLS USED: The Gimp, NetPBM RENDER TIME: approx. 45 hours HARDWARE USED: Amiga 4000, MC68040-40, 58 MB RAM. IMAGE DESCRIPTION: This is an "artist's impression" of a turbojet engine. It is not modelled after a real engine. I consider the invention of the turbojet engine (and its successors turbofan, turboprop and turboshaft) among the greatest engineering achievements of the last decades. It did not play a major role in World War II but completely changed civil aviation. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Everything was done with Real3D CSG, except the main part, which is a spline object. The hall the engine is standing in was adapted from an earlier scene. I would have liked to spend some more time on supply lines and other refinements, but February is too short :) . The scene is lit by four light sources, almost all materials are reflective. No special tricks were used building this virtual engine. Rendering might have been sped up by more main memory.
